It’s that time again, Sierra families! Time to celebrate literacy and Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a fun week of reading, reading, and more reading for Sierra’s annual Read-A-Thon!
How does it work?
Students pledge to read (or be read to) a set amount of time during our Read-A-Thon week. Students will collect sponsors to encourage them to reach their reading goals and earn money for Sierra at the same time!
Reading dates are: Friday, February 29th – Thursday, March 2nd
Reading and Donation Logs are due back by Friday, March 3rd
How do I pledge?
There are two ways to make a pledge to your student:
- Pledge an amount for each 10 minutes read. Example: Sponsors may decide to pledge $1.00 for each 10 minutes your student reads. Students will need to read 4 hours in order to earn $24.
- Sponsor a “flat $$ amount” for your student no matter how much they read. If a sponsor pledges a flat donation of $24, no matter how much the student reads, the sponsor would donate only their “flat amount” of $24.

How are pledges collected?
Students will ask family members or friends if they would like to support their efforts to read and earn money for Sierra. Students will complete their Reading and Donation Logs and turn back in to Sierra by Friday, March 3rd.
READING LOGS AND DONATIONS ARE DUE BACK BY FRIDAY, MARCH 3RD
Read-A-Thon week is kicked off with our Book Walk on Friday, February 24th during lunch/recess. All
students are welcome to participate in this fun event and will bring home a “new” book from our books
that have been generously donated by our Sierra families.
Prizes include:
- Read for 60 minutes, you will earn a Baskin Robbins coupon
- Read for 90 minutes, you will earn a Baskin Robbins coupon and a Peter Piper Pizza coupon
- Read for 180 minutes, you will earn a Baskin Robbins coupon, a Peter Piper Pizza coupon and an
additional “mystery prize”
Every student that turns in their completed Reading Log and Donations by Friday, March 3rd will be
entered into our Grand Prize drawing – one lucky student will win an AMAZON KINDLE HD FIRE tablet.
READ-A-THON WEEK SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Friday, February 24th:
Read-A-Thon begins/packets go home
Book Walk – every student can bring home a ‘new’ book
Start reading, logging minutes and collecting pledges!
Monday, February 27th:
Rainbow Day – dress in your grade color
Kinder – Red
1st – Orange
2nd – Yellow
3rd – Green
4th – Blue
5th – Purple
Tuesday, February 28th:
CRAZY SOCK day
Wear your wildest mis-matched socks!!!
Wednesday, March 1st:
Dress as your favorite book character or author today
Thursday, March 2nd:
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
CRAZY hair or CRAZY hat day
Friday, March 3rd:
Reading Logs and Donations are due today
SPIRIT DAY! Wear any Sierra t-shirt and show off your school spirit
Chris Gall, Arizona local children’s book author, visits Sierra today
