Liberty Lane Construction

Message from our Principal regarding road construction near our school

February 20, 2017

Dear Sierra Community:

As part of construction of the South Mountain Freeway, a new City of Phoenix waterline is being installed on Liberty Lane. The underground pipe will be connected to the existing water mains along Desert Foothills Parkway and 24th Street. For now the westbound closure will be between 18th Way and 12th Way.  There will not be any changes to our drop off or pick up procedures at this time.  They will be holding off on restrictions between 12th Street and Desert Foothills Parkway until May.

Please read through the information below carefully. We want everyone to be safe, whether you are driving or your student walks to school.

If you drive your children to and/or from school:
Beginning the week of February 26, be prepared to only travel east on Liberty Lane. The westbound lane and center turn lane will be closed until June 2018. Expect traffic barricades to be set up one evening and by morning, your normal drive to and from school may change.

Shoulders and bike lanes will also be closed, and the road will be narrowed. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 miles per hour. Please allow extra time for travel when you drop off and pick up your children, be patient and please obey the posted speed limits, as heavy traffic is expected. Detours may change from one day to the next, so please look for updated information on electronic message boards to help you plan your route. There will be no parking allowed on Liberty Lane.  Please obey all traffic signs.

If you walk your children to school:
Sidewalks on the south side of Liberty Lane will be open. Sidewalks on the north side may be closed at times for safety reasons. Please do not allow your children to cross any barriers. Allow extra time to get to school, and be extra cautious, as heavy traffic is expected.

A copy of the construction alert with more details about the waterline construction is attached. We also encourage you to sign up for weekly traffic alerts by visiting www.SouthMountainFreeway.com.

Sincerely,

Lisa Connor, Principal
